Gregor Mendel was a scientist in the 1800's. He was a botanist monk from austria, known as the father of genetics. His expirement with pea plants earned him this title. He helped us to better understand how genetics work by his multiple pea plant expiraments.
Why did Mendel use pea plants? mendel used pea plants because they're easy to work with, and they show recognizable differenced between them. Also due to their rapid grown he could study many generations of them in a short period of time.
In his expirement first he made two different purebred pea plants. He then bred the two plants. His resullts showed that none of the offspring resembled the parent plants, thats because the offspring showed the recessive (hidden) traits of the parents that do not show up in the parents.
The results of Mendels expirement shows that just because trait in the offspring doesn't show up in the parents like a dominant trait would, it is still there.
